We've Got Your Back!
Sometimes, we all need a little safety net. Whether it’s an unexpected car repair, an illness, or you simply need some extra padding in your budget before payday, we’re here to help, not judge. That’s why we offer our members several options to help them navigate their finances when an overdraft happens.
Overdraft protection can cover your transactions when there is not enough money in your account. Instead of paying costly returned payment fees, we’ll simply charge a low courtesy fee for each transaction we cover. You can see our current overdraft (Member Privilege) fee on our fee schedule.
When, where, and how we cover your transactions? That part is up to you! Currently, we offer three possible options.
Option #1 | Cover Everything
We will COVER debit card transactions, checks, bill pays, or ACH transactions even if there isn’t enough money available in your account (up to a $500 total limit). For each transaction that is covered, you will be charged a Member Privilege fee.
Option #2 | Cover Nothing
We will NOT COVER debit card transactions if there is not enough money in your account. Your card will be declined; there is no fee when this happens.
We will NOT COVER checks, bill pays, or ACH transactions if there is not enough money in your account. You will receive a non-sufficient funds fee from Great Basin for each transaction. You will may also be subject to a fee from the payee/merchant for the returned transaction and possibly a late payment.
Option #3 | Cover Only My Bills
We will NOT COVER debit card transactions if there is not enough money in your account. Your card will be declined; there is no fee when this happens.
We will COVER checks, bill pays, or ACH transactions even if there isn’t enough money available in your account (up to a $500 total limit). For each transaction that is covered, you will be charged a Member Privilege fee.
Overdraft protection is free to opt-in to with any Great Basin Checking Account and costs nothing unless you use the service!
There are other simple ways you can get help in the event of an overdraft.
Transfer from Savings
All checking accounts are automatically set up to transfer from the Primary Savings to cover an overdraft. Additionally, you can request to set up this type of automatic transfer from other sub-accounts you have (like a Secondary Savings or Money Market)
Transfer from a Line of Credit
Transfer from an Advance Line of Credit or a Visa Credit Card to cover an overdraft. An Advance Line of Credit is a revolving line of credit connected to your checking account. There is no fee for usage, making it a more affordable option than payday or title loan lenders!
