It’s estimated that over 20 million people play in fantasy football leagues around the world. If you don’t play fantasy football, you probably know at least one person who does. And you may know at least one person who talks about nothing else BUT fantasy football this time of year. At Great Basin, fantasy football is an after-hours hobby that many of the employees have taken to. Some are more hard-core than others, but we have found that it brings us closer together as we share a common interest in the name of fun (and maybe a bit of competition). Richard Robertson, main branch manager, is the commissioner of our fantasy football league. He definitely falls into the “hard-core” category. Following is a fun little poem he wrote as we neared our fantasy draft. Some of you out there might be able to relate.
‘Twas the week before the Fantasy draft, when all through the CU
Everyone was preparing, but I didn’t know what to do
The running backs would be gone at 11 to this I was aware,
But I could still hope that a good one might be there.
The other owners were all nestled snug in their beds,
While I couldn’t get visions of that last mock draft out of my head.
And Kim in her ‘jammies, and I in mine too,
I can’t believe she can sleep when I still don’t have a clue.
“Now CJ! now AP, ! now McCoy and Arian!
On, Rodgers! On, Vick! on Rice and McFadden!
To the end of the round! to me you shall fall!
Now stay away! Stay away! Stay away from them all!”
I sprang to my feet, to my foes gave a scream,
And cursed them for drafting AP and crushing my dream.
But they heard me exclaim, ‘in this great big drafting muck,
“Happy Drafting to all, and to all I wish you good luck!”
