Saving the planet, one Energy Saver Loan at a time!

Celebrate Earth Day by thinking about an Energy Saver Loan that could help you, and our planet!

Our nation has celebrated Earth Day each year on April 22 since 1970. Earth day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in. He was inspired by Vietnam war protesters because he noticed people protesting the war but not putting any pressure on government about the damage being done to the planet via contaminants like oil spills, pesticides and deadly smog. Therefore, his purpose was to unite people of many different cultures for a single purpose to care for our Earth. That purpose was to make all participants of this day Earth trustees and eliminate the problems of pollution, war, poverty, injustice and conflicts.

The American holiday had a strong start that year with 20 million Americans celebrating that first Earth day. It has since grown and has been celebrated in more than 192 countries by over 1 billion civic-minded supporters. Other countries know it as “International Mother Earth Day”. That’s the name it was given by the United Nations in 2009. The global movement has inspired real change. In fact on Earth day in the year 2011, 28 million trees were planted in Afghanistan for a “Plant Trees Not Bombs” campaign. In 2012, more than 100,000 people in China rode their bikes in order to reduce CO2 emissions and highlight the amount of pollution created by cars.

footprintHere, at Great Basin FCU we are trying to do our small part to further this cause of helping our members become more efficient and conserve paper by offering E-Statements and Bill Pay. Great Basin offers Energy Saver Loans by rewarding our members that are trying to conserve energy in their homes with offering the Energy Saver Loan with a discounted rate. The Energy Saver Loan is just like our Lifestyle Loans, but reward our members that utilize “green” products that benefit our environment. Acceptable energy efficient products could be the replacement of doors, furnaces, air-conditions, sealing energy leaks/adding insulation and other home appliances. Great Basin members will receive up to 100 basis point discount* from the traditional Lifestyle Loan we offer.

Similar to the Lifestyle Loans at Great Basin, the minimum loan amount is $250 up to $15,000 with a max term of 60 months. The current rate for Energy Saver Loans range from 6.24-17%. To qualify for an Energy Saver loan, a member must provide invoice or receipt for a product that is deemed to be “green”. Although earth day is celebrated in April, members can take advantage of our Energy Saver Loans anytime of the year!
