Apply for a Great Basin Student Scholarship

It’s not too late to remind our members that we are still accepting applications for our student scholarship program! The deadline for receiving applications is March 31, 2019.

Each year Great Basin awards up to $5,000.00 in Education Scholarship monies to one or more lucky recipients. The number of recipients and dollar amounts are determined by a select committee. The funds are made payable to the institution where the student attends. The funds are provided to help with tuition, required registration or other fees associated with post-secondary education.

Recipients are selected based on their involvement in community service, leadership activities and academic achievement. Applicants must be current members of the credit union (minimum of six months) and be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution, trade school or skill/training center. Applicants must hold a minimum GPA of 3.25.  If the applicant has not attended school for 5 years or more, but is interested in continuing their education, they must show exemplary performance /involvement in other leadership activities and community/volunteer services; a letter of recommendation from an employer or community member must also be included in lieu of an official school transcript.

Current GBFCU employees, board members, supervisory committee members and relatives of such are not eligible to apply.

Eligible students must complete the application and submit the requested documentation certifying community service, school involvement, and leadership activities. They will also need to include official school transcripts, letter of recommendation (if applicable) and an essay no more than 1,000 words that should include a description of the most rewarding community service activity they have done and why it impacted them so.

Winners will be selected based on three key areas:

Community Service

Leadership Activities/Participation

Academic Achievements/Work Performance

The recipient(s) is announced in mid-May through various media outlets such as local news, various credit union magazines, each of our 3 branches, social media, at our Annual Member Meeting, etc.  All applicants will receive notification one way or another to let them know if they were chosen or not at this time.
