Home Sweet Home: A monthly tip on turning a house into a home
Staying on Top of Your Contractor's List
Americans spent $129.3 billion on renovations last year. With their business booming and contractors notoriously disloyal, here's what you can do to stay on top of your contractor's list so that your home renovations are completed on time:
1. Find out if the contractor doesn't like certain work, and if so, get someone else for that portion of the project. That way, he won't procrastinate.
2. Give all details and be very specific about what you want done.
3. Build rapport. Be friendly, and mention others who might want his services.
4. Be as reliable as you want him to be. Show up for appointments as promised and pay on time according to your agreements.
